Cut Paper Still Life
This being an upper-level illustration class with a focus on graphic design, I asked students to bring a pack of construction paper, glue, and a marker or colored pencil to class with them. The goal was to use cut paper for blocking in shapes. This allows students to easily create compositions and produce lots fast.
60 Drawings 60 Minutes
When dealing with young students, I have come to find most find it hard to produce a lot of work in a short amount of time. Also, the ability to have the intution to call it quits and move on to the next concept.
Students are asked to come to class with 60+ blank index cards. They will get 60 minutes to produce 60 drawings on each index card. The theme of the drawings for the whole class should be simple but intriguing (ie. Cats, Drinks, Furniture).
