Assignment 02—Describe and Transcribe
Within this project, students will get an opportunity to talk to graphic design and work. Also, each student will be able to give direction towards the production of a new piece of work. In turn, they will have to take instruction and the direction of a fellow student. The end of the project resulted in each student creating a single poster from the direction of a student.
Have students paired by random since half of this project is based on the process of communication.
The students then select a pre-picked design sample by the instructor.
Students should then study the selected design in secret without sharing it with their partner.
The students should take notes on the design and how they are going to explain it.
While explaining students should refrain using the names of colors, however, they can describe the interaction of color in design (i.e. vibrant, soft, contrast, etc...)
Once students finish taking notes have them write both names of the pair on the back of the design samples and retrieve them. Now allow students time to explain the design samples to each other as written in their notes.
Assignment 03—Unconventional Type Specimens
Students will widen their mental understanding of the possibilities of what typography is. They will be invited to use new unconventional tools and create an alternative typeface.
Assignment 04—Curations and Collections
The focus of this project is the introduction of curation within their collections. Through the act of collecting items and make the decisions on similarities within a group, it grows the ability to speak about a large group of workers. By separating items of groups the student is slowly curating the selection.
This project is great to produce content and to be paired with a small publication project. It can be an introduction to pagination and book design techniques with Adobe InDesign.
